My roommate and I rented a house together and split the rent. We have a lease that says we cannot sublet to additional tenants without the prior approval of the landlord including a background check. We’ve had out-of- town guests come and stay for a few days and that is allowed in our lease. My roommate and I discussed and agreed, with our landlord’s approval, to add a third roommate and she pays her portion of the rent.
But now my roommate has allowed her boyfriend to literally move right in and stay in our home for the last six months without even asking our approval or that of our landlord. He pays no rent, uses our heat, water, laundry and pool, eats our food, and now wants to have his buddy move in too! When we complained about this to my roommate she said, “You just don’t like my boyfriend!”
The house we rent represents our country. My roommates and I are its’ citizens. The rent we pay is our taxes. The lease we abide by is the Constitution and immigration laws. Our out-of-town guests are tourists. The tenant we all agreed to add, with background check and approval of the landlord, is a legal immigrant. The boyfriend who moved in without the approval of the other tenants, in violation of our lease, is an illegal alien. The roommate who enabled her boyfriend to move in is probably a Democrat. The claim, “You just don’t like my boyfriend” is the slanderous claim of our being “anti-immigrant”.
Whether done out of pseudo-compassion, desire for cheap labor, skewing congressional representation, or to stuff the ballot box, allowing illegal immigration is just as wrong as letting the boyfriend move in without the consent of the other tenants in violation of the lease.
