The UGA women’s tennis team won its 10th SEC tournament on April 21 under the direction of former Winder-Barrow tennis standout Drake Bernstein.
Bernstein was named the SEC women's coach of the year for the effort, but credits his team for the victories.
"We are playing our best tennis right now,” Bernstein said. “We've grown as the year has gone on. It's a different team than we were in February. We're excited about what's in front of us.”
It was the team’s first SEC title under Bernstein as head coach.
Bernstein was himself a UGA tennis champion and helped the men’s team win the 2008 SEC and NCAA titles.
"I'm the head coach, but I have a great group of players, great assistants, the best support staff in the country, and just a lot of hands go into making this happen. That's why I don't necessarily look at it like it's my first. This belongs to everybody."
Georgia will now prepare for its next action coming up when it competes in the NCAA First and Second Rounds starting on May 3-5.
