A Winder-Barrow High School student was arrested on charges of simple battery after spitting on another female student during an argument in the school gymnasium on April 10.
According to an assistant principal, the juvenile student who was spit on said there was an argument between the two when she decided to distance herself from the other student. She said that the other student followed her to where she was standing, attempting to continue arguing, and then proceeded to spit into her hair.
The spitting student said she and the juvenile were having a heated argument, during which she screamed at the juvenile, calling her a “bitch.” She said that when she yelled at her, spit flew from her mouth and inadvertently hit the other student.
Video footage presented to the School Resource Officer showed the juvenile’s body turned away from the student during the entire altercation. The other student seemed to be aggravated due to her animated body language, such as throwing her hands in the air as she spoke. Then, suddenly the actions stop and the student is seen tilting her head back and intentionally spitting into the juvenile’s hair. “You are able to observe the cloud of spit leaving her mouth and striking the juvenile in the back of the head,” reported the SRO.
The juvenile student’s guardian expressed she wished to pursue charges against the student. The SRO subsequently placed the student under arrest for simple battery and transported her to the Barrow County Detention Center.
