Fort Yargo State Park in Winder has closed its popular swimming beach and day-use area for a major renovation project this year.
Once complete in mid-2025, park visitors will enjoy a larger swimming beach, more parking, a new pavilion, picnic areas and more.
Hiking and biking trails, cottages, campsites, yurts, boat ramps and group facilities will remain open during construction.
“We are so excited about the new amenities and improvements coming for our guests,” said park manager Lori Hamby.
“It will definitely be worth the wait, and our guests can still enjoy the lake and trails during renovation.”
Currently, the beach, mini-golf, disc golf, boat rental and surrounding day-use area are closed.
The renovation project includes:
- Sand beach and swimming area – space increased by 25%, with foot showers and accessible ramps and sidewalks
- New beach pavilion – showers, restrooms, trading post
- Group shelter A — renovated to accommodate larger groups
- Splash pad
- Miniature golf
- Pickleball
- Picnic areas and grills
- Boat rental
- Bike racks
- Expanded parking
The park is open daily and year-round.
