Bethlehem Christian Academy’s esteemed head football coach Bruce Lane announced his decision to resign after leading the Knights for four impactful years.
Lane’s departure follows a stellar 2023 football season for the Knights, who finished with a 10-1 overall record and went undefeated in the region.
Under Lane’s leadership, BCA’s football program underwent a remarkable transformation. Before his arrival in 2020, the Knights finished the season 1-10. However, Lane’s leadership saw a quick turnaround, with the team posting a 2-8 record in his first year, followed by 7-5, 10-2, and an impressive 10-1 finish last season.
Lane attributes this success to what he fondly refers to as the “Covid team.”
“The successes we’ve enjoyed the last three years have been a direct result of the foundation that the Covid team laid,” Lane said.
“They fought through a lot of adversity and worked hard to leave their fingerprints,” said Lane.
One of the Covid team’s proverbial fingerprints was a shift from a coach-led team to a player-led team.
“When they have that internal leadership our kids were able to develop and things go better,” Lane said.
“Kids holding themselves accountable can be more powerful,” he added.
“That senior class went out as winners.”
Despite his departure, Lane is confident in the Knights’ upcoming football season, praising the team’s character, coaching staff and the seniors poised to take the lead.
“Just knowing their character and what they’re made of, they will strive to set the bar even higher,” Lane said of next season’s senior class.
With 40 years of coaching under his belt, Lane’s coaching journey will see a new chapter at a small Christian school in Dublin, Georgia, where he hopes to revitalize the football program just as he did at BCA.
“It’s about changing a mind set, changing an expectation. You have to work daily and fight for your culture” he said.
“We’re looking forward to the next adventure with God.”
Reflecting on his four years at BCA, Lane emphasized the significance of the journey.
“It’s great looking back. The whole experience has made me better,” Lane remarked. “Hopefully, we put out more than just football.”
