A 41-year-old Winder man was killed Tuesday afternoon in a motorcycle accident around 2 p.m. on Georgia Highway 8 (Atlanta Highway) near the Bankhead Highway crossing, according to a report from the Athens post of the Georgia State Patrol. [ Full Story » ] 

The son of BarrowJournal.com web editor Kristi Reed was seriously injured in a car wreck Wednesday evening while driving home from football practice at Mill Creek High School.

Alex Reed remains in critical condition at Grady Hospital, where he was airlifted after the wreck. He underwent surgery on Friday.

"This is a great tragedy and we're all very concerned about Alex, Kristi and the Reed family," said co-publisher Mike Buffington of Mainstreet Newspapers, Inc. "We ask that everyone continue to keep this family in its prayers."

Kristi has been covering the Barrow County area for the Braselton News and has been web editor of the BarrowJournal.com site.

MCHS held a moment of silence for Alex at its football game Friday night according to the Gwinnett Daily Post (here).

The Mill Creek Touchdown Club has also set up a system for donations to the Reed family (here.)

Three people were killed in a head-on collision in Barrow County on Hwy. 11 South at 1:05 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Captain Dennis Dorsey of the City of Winder Police Department said officers responded to the scene in reference to a head-on collision. After talking to a witness it appears that one of the vehicles involved was passing on a double yellow line striking the other vehicle head on.
