Fourteen people were arrested early Wednesday in a multi-agency drug sweep that followed a five-month undercover operation by the Winder Police Department’s narcotics unit.
Assisting in the sweep were the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office and the State Parole Office.
An arrest by sheriff’s investigators turned into a family affair after they discovered marijuana growing on a home’s back deck and found three weapons – two Smith & Wesson pistols and an Inter Arms pistol.

Winder police bust Cumming couple
Winder narcotics officers today seized a pound of marijuana in an undercover operation that resulted in the arrests of a Cumming couple.
Holly Ann Smith and Aaron Smith were both charged with sale of marijuana and sale of marijuana within 1,000 feet of a school, according to a Winder Police Department press release.
The Smiths allegedly brought the marijuana to a location near a private school within Winder’s city limits and were arrested at 11 a.m.
“The timely response of the patrol division allowed for a safe and quick apprehension of these subjects,” said Lt. Frank Farr, commander of the narcotics unit.
The police department confiscated the Smith’s 1996 Saturn SL1.

Heroin bust latest in string of Barrow trafficking arrests

Barrow County narcotics investigators last Friday night made their biggest heroin bust in more than a decade. They arrested a Snellville drug dealer a little before midnight in the parking lot of a Bethlehem business and recovered 8 grams of heroin. That was enough for up to 160 single doses with a street value of about $3,000, according to the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office.

Undercover drug probe leads to 19 arrests in Barrow County
An undercover drug probe focusing on alleged drug dealers in Barrow County led to the arrest and/or warrants being issued for the arrests of 43 individuals, including 19 county residents.
Chief Deputy Murray Kogod said drug agents found drugs being moved in re-sale quantities. The operation was conducted in two stages and resulted in the total seizure of $135,625 in drugs, $8,650 in U.S. currency and $46,008 in property.
