With only a handful of provisional ballots left to count, Barrow County voters have closed a long and sometimes heated election season by sweeping in a slate of Republican officeholders.
The only surprise in Tuesday's General Election balloting was the ouster of Democrat incumbent District 3 county commissioner Bill Healan, who fell to Republican Steve Worley 2,428 to 1,842.
Sheriff's candidate Republican Jud Smith rolled to an easy 3-1 victory over Democrat James B. Bonnemer, Sr. 17,854 to 5,725.
Republican incumbent Chief Magistrate June Davis downed challenger Johnny C. Smith 16,998 to 6,181.
Barrow voters strongly supported Republican John McCain for president, bucking the national trend which swept in Democrat Barack Obama.
