PYE: More gimmicks as economy struggles

If you we’re expecting something different out of President Barack Obama than the same talking points and misguided economic policies that have kept the economy limping along these past couple years, then you are no doubt disappointed with his latest proposal.

Despite the failure of the stimulus bill passed in 2009, Obama, whose poll numbers have declined on the economy, is now demanding that Congress pass a $447 billion package of rehashed policies, which he believes will somehow create jobs when they didn’t before. [Full Story »]

When you think of divisive issues in the current political climate, it’s hard not to put immigration near the top of the list. Nearly everyone, especially here in the Peach State, has an opinion on immigration.

Unfortunately, the rhetoric we frequently hear on the issue from immigration restrictionists is based largely on myth and half-truths often perpetuated by groups that play on the ignorance and biases of people. [Full Story »] 

PYE: Georgia Republicans no friend of the taxpayer

If you listen to the media, the standard line is that Republicans are adamantly opposed to increasing taxes or that they have an “anti-tax orthodoxy.” Perhaps that is true amongst conservatives in the United States Congress, but here in Georgia, Republicans are singing a different tune.

When Gov. Sonny Perdue came in to office in 2003, he proposed a series of tax hikes totaling $762 billion - our statist friends would call them “revenue enhancements” or “revenue increases” — to deal with a budget deficit. Perdue earned the ire of Stephen Moore, who slammed the first Republican Governor in the state since Reconstruction in the National Review and branded the GOP as the “pro-tax party in Georgia.” [Full Story »]
