It’s tradition that DragonCon is always held in Atlanta on Labor Day weekend, and this year I was able to venture there with the best guys I know. With my cousin, best friend and significant other by my side, we spent the entire weekend in what is essentially spring break for nerds. Along the way we learned some very important things:
1. Book your hotel early. DragonCon is held in several hotels: the Sheraton, Marriott, Westin, Hilton and the Hyatt. While there are many hotels in the area as well as the rooms in the host hotels, they fill up very fast. We ended up staying near the airport and commuting to the conference.
2. Stay in one of the host hotels if you can. After tallying up the gas and parking expenses, our group came to the conclusion that the price would be about the same if we all pitched in for a room at one of the host hotels. While a little more costly, the convenience of it can’t be beat. When you want to walk around in a heavy costume for awhile, it gets hot and uncomfortable. Having a room just upstairs from the convention would allow for easy access to change out of costume.
