City of Statham officials unanimously approved a new juvenile curfew, which is set to go into effect July 20, 10 days after it was voted on.
The model for Statham’s curfew was patterned after the one used by the City of Winder. The Winder curfew was approved in May. The curfew is designed for those 16 years old and younger for the hours of midnight until 6 a.m.
The ordinance states, it shall be “unlawful for any minor to loiter, wander or play in or upon the public places, establishments or vacant property in the City unsupervised by a parent, guardian or through prescribed authority and having the lawful authority to be in such places, between the hours of 12 a.m. and 6 a.m.”

Statham plans Veterans Memorial Park
Those wishing to honor a veteran can take advantage of a once-in-a-lifetime chance to make history by purchasing a brick engraved in the honor of a loved one who has served in a U.S. war.
The City of Statham is currently accepting order forms to purchase engraved memorial bricks for the construction of a local Veteran’s Memorial Park. Along with the American Legion Statham post, the city’s plans are to construct a Veteran’s Memorial on Jefferson Street in downtown Statham by the summer of 2012, organizers said.
Engraved memorial bricks are $30 each for a 4x8 brick or $100 each for an 8x8 brick and can be bought at city hall or through a participating American Legion. Drawings of the plans are on display in the Statham City Hall. An order form can be found on page 3A of the Dec. 14 print edition of the Barrow Journal.

Statham officials to seek grant for sewer installation
City of Statham officals will look to an “opportunity zone” to help provide sewer service to McCarty Trailer Park.
“This section has low to medium income citizens,” said Statham mayor Robert Bridges. “We need to provide sewer to this location and we have been told we can receive grant money for it.”
Engineering Management Incorporated of Lawrenceville has provided an estimated cost of $5,500 to help with the project. This would include a re-development plan, public hearings and plan, ordinance and resolution adoption. [Full Story »]
