During the late spring of 1998, I set about the task of deciding who I was going to vote for in the primary for Lt. Governor.

With an open race that year, numerous candidates were set to be on the ballot in both the Democrat and Republican contests. After reading numerous newspapers articles on each of the candidates who had signed their name on the dotted line to run, one clearly stood above the rest in my opinion and that was Mac Barber. As I entered the Winder Women’s Club building last week, I had no idea what was in store.

I was there to cover the Barrow County Republican Party meeting since state Rep. Terry England was to preview the upcoming 2009 legislative session. As I make it a habit of doing, I arrived at the meeting early and as I walked in the building, only a handful of people were there.

I’ve always had an ear for small town radio stations.

Perhaps it’s because I come from a small town and have always worked in them. In addition, I’ve made my career working for community newspapers, which concentrate on local news. Local sports, local obits, local meetings and everything in between is what we deliver to the readers.
