Committee to address mold crisis

Yearwood said he appointed commissioners Billy Parks, Steve Worley, along with Ronny Allison of Buildings & Grounds, and operations development manager Bob Hohe to serve with him on the committee.

“In 30 days, I want to come back with some kind of plan on what we will do and how to do it, whether to tear it down, replace or repair it,” Yearwood said.

“We will come back before the board in March. We’ve got a lot of decisions to make.”

A recent study showed that the courthouse annex has developed a serious mold problem due to years of leaks in its roof.

Resident Gail Ryskinski during the public comment period of Tuesday night’s BOC meeting questioned why the annex had been allowed to deteriorate and asked flatly: “Have you not designated duties of each department? Does each department head have a job description? Have you seen to it these duties are being performed?”

She said it is apparent in the case of the courthouse facilities that that was not done and, as a result, taxpayers would have to pay to remediate the mold and correct the damage.
