Wes and Karen VanKirk have always loved to be around history. As they were looking to expand their business, VanKirk Electric knew they found a gem in the old Larry’s Easy Pay Building in Winder.
“When we got it, she was looking a little run down,” said Wes. “But within five minutes of walking into this space, Karen and I knew we wanted to renovate.”
The VanKirks have been married for 35 years and work for the electrical company started by Wes’s grandfather, Earl Wesley VanKirk, in 1943 in Seattle. Both Wes and his father also became electricians.
Now the company works all over the United States, with most projects being completed in California, Texas, Atlanta and the Carolinas. With approximately 400 people employed in the company, about 50 of those are employed at the company’s corporate office in Winder.
The two moved to the area around 30 years ago.
Wes has been traveling all across the country for projects and was looking for a more permanent home base and was told to move near an Atlanta location.
