City of Statham police officers are now allowed to take home their assigned patrol vehicles.
City council members approved the new procedure at a meeting held Nov. 18.
“This will ensure better response by officers when they come on duty,” said police chief Alan Johnston. “When they hit the city limits, they are actually in service.”
The policy will allow officers living no more than 25 miles from the city to take home their patrol car. “We have no officers that live more than 10 miles from the police department,” said Johnston.
