Statham water customers will see a 12 percent increase in their water bills beginning in July.
The Statham City Council unanimously approved the increase at a meeting held last week.
According to a report prepared by the city’s consulting firm, EMI, the city’s current rates are anywhere from 12 to 44 percent lower than rates charged by surrounding utility systems. The council approved a 12 percent increase in rates beginning July of 2015. In addition, rates will increase by six percent in 2016, and an additional five percent each year in 2017 and 2018. Council will review rates each year thereafter in order to validate whether an additional five percent increase is necessary.
