The Town of Braselton is closing in on the 12-month period it has been given to meet the various criteria to become an official “Main Street community.” The Main Street program is an economic model for cities and towns nationwide that was created by the National Trust for Historic Preservation in 1980.
On Dec. 11, the Braselton Downtown Development Authority took action on a couple of items bringing the town closer to that goal. The DDA voted to accept an amendment to its bylaws that addresses the board’s management of the Main Street program. The board also approved a Main Street mission and vision statement.
The town became a “Main Street ‘start-up’ community” in January. For more information on the national MainStreet program, go to http://www.preservationnation.org/main-street/.
