The Winder Downtown Development Authority is getting some new muscle – and new talent – under the administration of Winder’s new mayor.

Statham voters to decide on Sunday sales

The Statham City Council has now turned the issue of Sunday alcohol sales over to the voters. Council members approved by a 3-2 vote Tuesday night to allow a March 6 vote on sale of beer and wine on Sundays in convenience stores. [Full Story »] 

Man found in Winder pond died from drowning

No foul play was involved in the death of a man whose body was found in a private pond off Holsenbeck School Road in Winder last week. Autopsy results indicate the man died from drowning, Winder Police Department Public Information Officer Chris Cooper said Tuesday. Prescription drugs were also present in the man's bloodstream. Maynard: State fee on Ft. Yargo bike trails ‘goofy’

With time running out for public input, Winder city officials this week hope to intervene in the plan to tack on a new user fee for the mountain bike trails at Fort Yargo State Park. Winder Mayor David Maynard on Monday called the state’s proposal “the goofiest thing in the world” since volunteers built and now maintain the trails at their own expense.
