A Hall County Sheriff’s Office dive team came up empty in their search Tuesday for the gun used in a double shooting of an Auburn couple.
“They didn’t find anything,” said Auburn Police Chief Frederick Brown Tuesday afternoon. “They’re not coming back, unless we have something else that we need them for.”
A full team of eight or more divers searched a pond behind Parks Mill Apartments where the couple was shot Nov. 15 while sleeping. A full team with eight or more divers arrived at the site off Park Mill Road at 9 a.m.
Because of the murkiness of the water, the divers used a search pattern method and felt the bottom of the pond by hand, Brown said.
Several Auburn law enforcement personnel are working on the mystery of who and why someone shot 35-year-old Kathy Lynn McCallister and 54-year-old Michael John Borg while they were asleep in an apartment in the Parks Mill Apartments.
The victims have been released from Gwinnett Medical Center since undergoing surgery.
Brown said the victims have moved out of the apartment and are “kinda guarded right now.”
With no known motive for the shooting, Auburn police are looking at three possible theories: that the shooting was gang related, drug related, or “somebody just picked the wrong house,” Brown said.
He said there has been some gang activity in the area of the apartment complex. “This summer, we had an assault with some gang members in that general area.”
However, police know of no gang or drug ties to the victims, he said.
