If you break the law in Winder, you may find yourself facing a hefty fine.
At a meeting held Tuesday night, the Winder City Council approved changes to the current fine list. Those changes include an increase in fine for third offense of DUI/child endangerment from $1,551 to $4,776. If you are caught drawing water from a fire hydrant, a violation that previously came with a fine of $302 will now cost you $1,000.
The fine for violating building codes increased as well, up from $151 to $302.
City administrator Donald Toms reported, where some fines increased, others are being decreased. In order to bring the fine for fleeing and attempting to elude in line with amount collected in other areas, the fine for first violation decreased from $1,494 to $1,157, with second offense decreasing from $3,839 to $1,551 and third offense reduced from $5,868 to $4,776.
