Members of the Statham City Council are in agreement that a city administrator would be beneficial to the city in terms of promotion and even eventual cost savings.
During a meeting to discuss the upcoming budget, council member Perry Barton said there was a “500-pound gorilla” that had to be talked about in terms of the city.
“We need a professional manager,” Barton said. “Currently the mayor is in that position and we need to look at changing that.”
Mayor Bridges brought the idea up at a previous budget work session for council members to think about.
While it may be several months before a city administrator is even hired, the council said the salary would likely be $60,000 base with another $12,000 for travel expenses and $5,000 for insurance.
