Citizens in Statham who worried about a crematorium breathed a sigh of relief Tuesday night.
City attorney Thomas Mitchell told council members during their Tuesday meeting that after researching the issue, he learned of a state law which prohibits crematoriums from being within 1,000 feet of a platted subdivision.
Using that law, Mitchell told the council that the business license for a crematorium could not be issued. This brought cheers from several in attendance at the meeting.
