The Georgia Department of Transportation is asking the public not to park along North Broad Street — day or night — until paving and other work on the road's surface is completed.
"Crews will be preparing during the day for the overnight paving operation," said Teri Pope, GDOT spokesperson. "Stopping work to move vehicles will delay the paving work each night."
One lane of the two-lane road also will be closed nightly next week from 9 p.m.-6 a.m. for the paving work.
Bayne Smith, GDOT district engineer, said after the paving is completed, the contractor will smooth out the new concrete panels that replaced North Broad's road surface. Then the contractor will put down permanent striping and retime the traffic signals.
