At 2 p.m. Friday, April 4, former Barrow County animal control director Danyal Harper resigned his employment with the county government.
County manager Randall Dowling told the Barrow Journal that Harper is no longer an employee of the county in any capacity. After nine years with Barrow County Animal Control, Harper was promoted to director on March 25. But days later someone discovered an online collection of photographs, graphics and a video he had culled from the Internet sometime in the past that injected humor into the subject of dead animals.
The Barrow County Board of Commissioners on April 1 rescinded its earlier vote naming Harper to the director's post, and he remained the department's senior animal control officer this week while the human resources department conducted an internal investigation. The findings had not been released Friday afternoon, but the county announced his resignation just after 3 p.m. Dowling said until the discovery of the photo collection, the 33-year-old Harper had a "spotless" work record with Barrow County.
