Winder city administrator Don Toms plans to announce tonight his selection of the city's next police chief.
The announcement will come during the last of three meetings scheduled for tonight.
The first meeting is a 5:30 p.m. public hearing for residents to comment on the Winder Housing Authority’s application for a Community Development Block Grant to be used to create a Center for Community Development at the vacated Winder-Barrow Middle School building. The public hearing will be at the Winder Community Center.
Then at 6 in the same location, the Winder City Council will have a called meeting where it will approve a resolution endorsing the housing authority's application. Other agenda items include the approvals of a “temporary landscape easement and maintenance agreement” with the developers of the Gateway at University Parkway north of Highway 31; an intergovernmental agreement for the distribution of proceeds from the Title Ad Valorem Tax; a $33,369 change order for the Midland Avenue-Jackson Street Drainage Project, and a grant that the non-profit agency, Peace Place, is seeking from the Georgia Department of Community Affairs.
Immediately following that meeting, the council's Public Safety Committee will decide whether to convene its monthly meeting at the community center — or, due to other evening activities in that facility — move over to City Hall on West Midland Avenue. On the agenda for the committee meeting is the hiring announcement for the police chief.
