Jan Moore knew she would become a teacher since she was in second grade. It’s in school that she found most of her role models and inspiration.
Moore loves teaching her third grade class at Holsenbeck Elementary School, but admits that keeping students interested can be a challenge. This challenge often requires the use of innovative and creative lesson plans.
One of these plans would lead Moore to be recognized for the statewide Innovation in Teaching Competition.
For the competition, Moore crafted a lesson plan around Paul Revere. Students spent two weeks studying this American Revolution patriot.
“I wanted to find a theme that students could get interested and learn something from,” said Moore. “The lesson wasn’t just for the competition. The lesson encompassed the entire school day for two weeks.”
