The Barrow County Board of Education got a look at an updated 3-year budget projection Tuesday night and the data is looking even worse. Due to an annual step pay increase and the upcoming opening of the Sims Academy of Institute and Technology, school leaders now project the 3-year deficit to be $5.1 million, up from an earlier projection of $3.6 million. Projections show the system will end FY2014 with reserves totaling $8.7 million and FY2015 with $4.1 million in reserves. But in FY2015, projection show the system will use up all its reserves and be in the hole by around $800,000.
