The Barrow County Board of Education is currently working to draft the student calendar for 2014-15. Both calendar options project a 173-day school year, an increase from the 170-day school year for 2013-14.
Both options also call for a 10-day planning period for teachers. Employee and administrative calendars will be drafted once the student calendar is agreed on.
The proposed calendars differ in the length of student’s Fall Break. The first option depicts a long Fall Break from October 6-10. To accommodate for the long break, classes will begin on Friday, Aug. 1.
The second calendar option reflects a short Fall Break on October 9 and 10. In this calendar option, classes would begin on Wednesday, Aug. 6.
A survey is currently being offered online to gauge public opinion of the two options. The survey will close on December 16.
The board will be presented with a final proposed calendar at the December 17 work session.
