The opportunity to vote in advance of the city council races in Auburn, Bethlehem and Winder ends at 5 p.m. today. And after a sluggish start three weeks ago, the early turnout has become substantial. As of 5 p.m. Thursday, 311 Winder residents had voted in person and 23 more had requested absentee ballots through the mail for the at-large race between incumbent Bob Dixon and challengers Lorin Sinn-Clark and Nicole Tobias.
In the five-way race for two seats on the Auburn City Council, 26 residents had voted in person and two had requested paper ballots. Incumbents Donna Scouten and Bob Vogel are facing challenges by William Ackworth, Harold Money and Jay Riemenschneider.
And two Bethlehem residents also have voted early this week in the race between C.L. Wood and Joe Price.
Advance voting ends at 5 p.m. today at the office of the Barrow County Board of Elections & Voter Registration on East Broad Street in Winder. Election Day is Tuesday. Only one polling location will be open in each of the three cities.
