County manager Jock Connell notified the press on Friday that due to the county's purchase of the incorrect size of the required public notice about the planned tax hike on properties inside the city of Winder, the public process will have to be repeated.
"The County Manager was notified that the Finance Department improperly advertised the proposed millage rate for the City of Winder by failing to specify the statutorily required size of the advertisement," states the press release. "All rates and calculations contained within the previous advertisement were accurate."
The county government will re-advertise the millage rate increase, then conduct again the three required public hearings, and the BOC will vote again on the adoption of the new rate. The public hearings will be at 11:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Oct. 2, and at 6 p.m. Oct. 9 in the BOC meeting room at 233 E. Broad St.
