The Rockwell Church Road fire that took the life of an 18-month-old Barrow County girl has been ruled accidental, according to a press release issued early today by Barrow County Emergency Services.
“The fire started in the area of the sunroom and dining room of the home and spread quickly due to the open layout of the home,” states the press release. “Investigators have concluded that the most probable cause of the fire was an electrical failure inside the structure.”
The child was sleeping near where the fire broke out at around 2 a.m. Sept. 18, the press release states.
Forensic and Scientific Testing Inc. assisted in the investigation, said Lt. Blair Darst of BCES. “They were able to provide technical assistance that helped us determine the cause.”
The additional level of scrutiny was due to the fatality, he said.
