In final budget action Wednesday night, the Barrow County Board of Commissioners restored most of the sheriff's funding for FY2014 but increased the county tax rate inside Winder — while slightly reducing the tax rate everywhere else in the county.
Everywhere but Winder, the county tax rate will drop by .25 of 1 mill to a new rate of 13.259 mills.
In Winder, the rate will rise by 1.356 mills to a new rate of 12.313 mills. The city’s property owners pay a slightly lower county tax due to the city’s separate fire tax for services the county doesn't have to provide.
The BOC also adopted the new tax rate that the Barrow County Board of Education approved at a called meeting Wednesday evening. The tax rate for the schools will remain 18.5 mills.
