An early-morning fire in a home at the intersection of Rockwell Church Road and Moon Bridge Road claimed one life and seriously injured three other people, including a teen. A fifth occupant was not injured.
Lt. Scott Dakin, spokesman for Barrow County Emergency Services, said the three injured victims appeared to be in critical condition and were flown to Grady Memorial Hospital.
Because of the home's long driveway, firefighters had to request the assistance of the Jackson County Fire Department, which provided two water tankers that shuttled water from a nearby fire hydrant. The house was destroyed.
"The biggest problem was the long driveway," Dakin said.
Passersby spotted the fire and called the county's E-911 Center at 2:17 a.m. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
