The Barrow County Board of Commissioners is slated to hold a public hearing tonight (Wednesday) on its FY2014 budget and a proposed millage increase for Winder residents. The meeting is slated for 6 p.m. in the administrative building. Among those expected to speak at the meeting is Sheriff Jud Smith, whose budgets for the sheriff’s office and jail have been targeted for cuts of nearly $800,000.
The budget also calls for cutting the millage rollback for Winder resident, a move that will increase the tax rate in the city by 1.228 mills.
The BOC will hold two more hearings next Wednesday, Sept. 18 at noon and 6 p.m. on the budget and tax rate.
