Community & Southern Banks is buying Verity Bank for $11.80 per share, according to a news release issued early Wednesday. Verity was founded in Winder and opened in 2008. It has branches in Winder and Corneila and had $169 million in assets at the end of June. Unlike a lot of banks that sold or merged during the recession, Verity wasn’t involved in the housing bubble and has no troubled assets on its books. C&S Bank was founded in 2010 and purchased a number of banks in North Georgia that were hurt during the recession, including Winder’s Peoples Bank. The transaction between the banks is expected to be completed by Jan. 1, 2014.
