Drunken attack leads to multiple charges
A Statham man was arrested Sunday on charges stemming from a domestic dispute.
Willie James McNair, 44, was charged with simple battery, kidnapping, interference with a 911 call, terroristic threats and acts and false imprisonment.
Barrow County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to 504 Marcel Park in Statham after the victim, Andrea McNair, attempted to call 911. Dispatchers reported they could hear a woman screaming and a man threatening to kill the woman.
When deputies arrived, they heard the woman screaming for help. Deputies entered the residence and found McNair straddling the victim and holding her on the ground. McNair was ordered to the ground at gun point and handcuffed.
The victim said the dispute began earlier in the evening when she asked her husband to turn down the television. McNair began yelling and hit the victim on the back and head. The victim said she tried to leave, but McNair would not let her. The victim said she dialed 911 when McNair was not looking in the hope that deputies would respond before she was injured.
According to the victim, McNair threatened to kill her and told her “she was lucky she wasn’t dead.”
The deputies investigating the incident found the house in disarray. In the bedroom, deputies found a broken telephone on the nightstand and an imprint of the phone on the wall next to the bed. In the report, the deputy wrote, “It appeared that the phone had been thrown against the wall.”
The victim said McNair had been drinking all day and has a history of abusive behavior. She also said McNair is bi-polar and will occasionally “flip-out” on her.
The victim had visible carpet burns and abrasions. She refused medical treatment, but thanked the deputies for “saving her life.”
McNair denied any wrongdoing. He accused the victim of “busting” his rims. The deputies noted that McNair smelled strongly of alcoholic beverage and was slurring his speech.
McNair was arrested and transported to the Barrow County Detention Center.
