This week's first day of candidate qualifying for November's municipal elections drew only a handful of incumbents — and no challengers. Incumbents Ridley Parrish, Sonny Morris and Bob Dixon qualified on Monday to run for re-election to the Winder City Council. Braselton Mayor Bill Orr also qualified to run for a new term. And Statham City Council incumbent Betty Lyle qualified. But no Auburn incumbents stepped forward. Carl’s qualifying period begins Tuesday and Bethlehem’s Wednesday.
The qualifying deadline is 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in Braselton, 4:30 p.m. Thursday in Carl, and 4:30 p.m. Friday in Auburn, Bethlehem, Statham and Winder. Candidates everywhere but Winder must qualify at their city halls. The Barrow County Elections Office is handling the qualifying process for the county seat.
