By the time the county’s independent auditors last month informed the Barrow County Board of Commissioners that close to $15,000 in excess funds had been discovered in four Clerk of Superior Court accounts, the problem had been resolved. Clerk Regina McIntyre told the Barrow Journal this week that all of the excess funds discovered by Mauldin & Jenkins Certified Public Accountants LLC had accumulated prior to her taking office in January 2009.
“When the audit was done, it came to light that we had an overage of $14,919.59,” McIntyre said. “Everything that has taken place since I've been Clerk balanced, and so it was determined that the overages took place before I took office in January of 2009. We pulled all the financial records that we could find going back as far as we could go. Two employees and myself searched in the storage area and were unable to find the records very far back.”
