The Barrow County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday night approved new wholesale water contracts with three municipalities. The city of Auburn and the town of Braselton have agreed to pay for a minimum of 300,000 gallons per day at a rate of $2.22 per 1,000 gallons, whether they use that amount of water or not. Both municipalities had been paying the county $1.60 per 1,000 gallons.
The city of Statham, which typically uses the least amount of county water, went with a contract that sets no minimum purchase but charges a higher rate of $2.80 per 1,000 gallons. That city had been paying a rate of $2.50 per 1,000 gallons.
Winder officials have not submitted a contract to the county.
