The major transportation project in downtown Winder is finally under way.
The Georgia Department of Transportation contractor, G.P.’s Enterprises of Barrow County, has set up a staging area for its heavy equipment and has begun surveying the project area from the railroad right of way on North Broad Street to Stephens Street, said Winder planning director Barry Edgar.
The project includes replacement of the North Broad roadway with cast concrete panels — it’s the first such project in Georgia — as well as the development of new a new streetscape on both sides of the road.
