Barrow County Fire and Emergency Services announced this week that the statewide outdoor burning ban has been lifted.
Citizens are still required to obtain a burn permit from the Georgia Department of Forestry and will be required to follow established regulations in order to legally burn.
“While we want the citizens to be able to burn their yard debris, we also want them to do it safely,” said Lieutenant Scott Dakin, Barrow County Firs and EMS Public Information Officer.
Permitted burn items include yard debris such as leaves, small limbs and grass cuttings. Fires must be supervised at all times and a water supply must be available for easy access.
“Fires can very quickly get out of control,” said Lt. Dakin. “That is why we want citizens to be safe and follow regulations when they do burn.”
