More than 70 percent of students who in August will attend the new middle school in Statham want it to be named Bear Creek Middle School. Superintendent Wanda Creel will recommend that name to the school board, which will vote on the matter at Tuesday’s meeting.

With the name Bear Creek Middle, I assume that the mascot will be the Bearcats.

Why would it be Bearcats??? Why not just Bears??? What the heck is a bearcat?
