The Winder-Barrow High School baseball team had the opportunity to face some top competition Saturday in a preseason scrimmage.
The Diamond Doggs faced Grayson, the No. 1-ranked team in Class AAAAAA, as the 2013 season approaches. While WBHS fell 13-5, coach Brian Smith said the scrimmage was beneficial for the team.
“We threw a different pitcher each inning,” Smith said. “We got to see some good things out of some players who are trying to prove themselves. Grayson is a pretty good team. It was a good challenge for us. I want us to see as much good competition as we can before region begins.”
WBHS will begin the new season Wednesday (today) against Dacula at home at 5:30 p.m. The team will also travel to Lakeside Friday for a 6:30 p.m. contest.
“We saw some things in the scrimmage we need to improve on,” Smith said. “It’s early and I know we will make the necessary improvements with each game.”
