There will not be a special election to fill the vacancy created by the Jan. 30 death of longtime city councilman Charlie Eberhart. Instead, the mayor and council are following the process laid out in the city charter, which says they are to make the appointment. Mayor David Maynard said Monday that there also would be no formal process for nominating a replacement, though he has received several suggested names. He said he would consider any additional names submitted by the public.
