The City of Winder and Keep Barrow Beautiful will be holding a fall household hazardous waste drop-off event Thursday, October 9 through Saturday, October 11.
County households may bring junk, batteries of all kind, computers, electronics (TV sets are ten dollars to recycle) cell phones, toner and inkjet cartridges, scrap metal, tires (limit four) motor and cooking oil, and latex paint (limit two gallons per home) to the City of Winder pavilion on East Athens Street from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday and from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday.
According to Keep Barrow Beautiful:
• a ten percent increase in recycling volume in Georgia can save an equivalent of 50 million gallons of gas.
• in January 2008, 36,300 gallons of roadside trash and litter were picked up off of Barrow County Roads alone.
• in 2007, Barrow County residents received $6,000 from the Solid Waste Trust Fund for scrap tire recycling.
• Ninety-five percent of all paper generated in the Barrow County Administrative Annex is recycled, be it office paper, corrugated, shredded documents, packing material, magazines and newsprint.
The cities of Auburn, Statham, and Winder host drop off events each year to help Keep Barrow Beautiful. For more information, contact Shannon Young with Keep Barrow Beautiful at 770-307-3020.
