Creel’s new contract finalized

Following a 28-minute closed session Tuesday night, the Barrow County Board of Education finalized the terms of school superintendent Wanda Creel’s contract and extended it to June 30, 2014. That is three months longer than an earlier arrangement approved in August. That one guaranteed her continued employment only through March 2014.
Tuesday’s vote was 5-2 with members Rickey Bailey and Mitch Churchill voting no.
Churchill told the Barrow Journal on Wednesday morning that he voted against the new contract because he thinks its term is too short.

Thank you Rickey Bailey for voting no, egardless of the reason why her contract was extended further. Mitch Churchhill – I am confused. Surely the paper misquoted you. Surely you didn't actually say that.

I agree--thank you Mr. Bailey. And I would hope that Mr. Dunn would have voted no had he been present. As for the rest of you I have completely lost confidence in your ability to lead and guide the school system. You are now officially part of the problem, NOT the solution. Hopefully Dr. Huff will bring some much needed wisdom to this utterly incompetent BOE.

BOE Assessor, You nailed it with your statement that the BOE is officially part of the problem. In fact, everything I've ever seen that you've posted has been spot on and written with a depth of knowledge and comprehension that is rarely found here. I, too, believe that Will Dunn would've voted no. I am surprised by Mark Still's vote of yes. I am also disappointed in Dan Cromer. Having been a superintendent himself, I would've thought that he would have a better understanding of the bigger picture. My hope, like yours, is that Dr. Huff will balance out this lop-sided board in favor of the students and teachers in this school system.

The rest of the BOE only have themselves in mind. They (women) enjoy the controversy. The others have lost touch, but that has been evident based on their past decisions which turned out to be complete failures.

The extension of three months only puts her in line with other super's contracts when she takes a new position.
