Despite continued enrollment growth, the pace of spending by the Barrow County School System is slower now than it was at the same time last year. Chris Griner, executive director of Finance and Business Services, told the BOE that the system’s reserves as of Nov. 30 were about $7.4 million. That is about $1.4 million more than at the same point a year ago. A spreadsheet posted online with the meeting’s agenda provided shows that as of Nov. 30, which marks the end of the first five months of the fiscal year, the school system had collected $648,000 more revenue than it did at the same point last year. And it had spent about $1.5 million less.
