Tuesday night’s meeting of the Barrow County Board of Commissioners has a light agenda, but there are some big-ticket items to be discussed.
Barrow County Emergency Services Chief Dennis Merrifield will provide an update on the $4 million replacement of the countywide emergency radio communications system. The BOC also will discuss a proposal to disburse to the school system about $2.8 million in revenues set aside from the 2006-2012 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax for the construction of a cultural arts facility. The school system would contribute $1.5 million and then cover all future maintenance and operational costs. Also on the agenda is a discussion of possible lease-purchase financing for the ongoing replacement of sheriff’s office vehicles.
The BOC meeting starts at 6 p.m. in the commissioners meeting room on the second floor of the county government headquarters building at 233 E. Broad St.
