More than a third of Barrow County’s registered voters cast ballots ahead of tomorrow’s election. Barrow County elections supervisor Monica Franklin said 1,665 local residents voted in person on Friday, bringing the total number of advance voters to 12,074. Her office also had received another 863 absentee ballots as of Friday.
That brought the early turnout to 12,937 or 36.86 percent of the 35,096 registered voters eligible to vote in the Presidential and local elections Tuesday.
While solid, that early turnout actually is significantly below the 45.1 percent early turnout of 2008, when 13,828 local residents voted in advance and another 1,438 cast absentee ballots. That year, a combined total of 15,266 Barrow County residents cast ballots before Election Day.
Election Day 2012 is Tuesday, Nov. 6. Polls will be open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m.
Early turnout tops 36 percent; polls open Tuesday at 7 a.m.
