City life is picking up in downtown Winder.
At a meeting of the Winder Downtown Development Authority on Tuesday, the DDA’s recently hired director discussed several events planned for this fall. On the heels of a successful night of Zumba dancing at the downtown gazebo in Jones Park, the city is teaming up again with Anytime Fitness for a “Zombie Zumba” from 7-9 p.m. Oct. 19 at the same location. The best-dressed zombie will take home a prize. The DDA’s newly formed events committee is also planning a big night of trick-or-treating on Halloween night. So far, 22 downtown businesses have agreed to hand out candy to trick-or-treaters during at least a portion of the three-hour event from 5-8 p.m. Storefronts will be decorated, and some merchants will really get in the spirit of the holiday by donning costumes. A couple of local non-profits also are interested in providing other free activities for children that night. Watch for updates on the DDA’s new website, www.winderdowntown.com, which should be accessible Oct. 1.
