Barrow County’s net tax digest dropped by an unprecedented 12 percent this year, according to digest numbers released Tuesday. The net taxable value of properties countywide plunged by more than $191 million, which is the biggest single-year drop since the start of the recession. The digest’s net value for the county government was about $1.9 billion in 2008. Now it is $1.379 billion. That is a four-year drop of 27.5 percent — a dollar value of more than half of $1 billion dollars.
